What impact did the Second World War have upon British imperial authority?

The Second World War was a key event in reshaping the geo-political map in the second half of the 20th century. The conflict resulted in a power shift from European imperial dominance towards US and Soviet hegemony , and a change in the organisation of nations characterised by the breakdown of imperial structures, particularly Britain’s. Certainly, many historians have pointed to the British Empire’s rapid post-war decline, arguing the war itself was a decisive factor in bringing British authority to an end. Before going any further, it must be reminded that WWII alone cannot explain the decline of the British Empire, and other factors such as the rising education of colonial subjects should not be overlooked.

However, this article aims not to compare the impact of the war with that of other issues. Rather, it will highlight some of the direct and indirect consequences of the war itself on British…

Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument. The architect was Henry Bacon, the sculptor of the primary statue – Abraham Lincoln, 1920 – was Daniel Chester French, and the painter of the interior murals was Jules Guerin. It is one of several monuments built to honor an American president.

The building is in the form of a Greek Doric temple and contains a large seated sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. The memorial has been the site of many famous speeches, including Martin Luther King‘s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered on August 28, 1963 during the rally at the end of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Like other monuments on the National Mall – including the nearby Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and National World War II Memorial – the memorial is administered by the National Park Service under its National Mall and Memorial Parks group. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since October 15, 1966. It is open to the public 24 hours a day. In 2007, it was ranked seventh on the List of America’s Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.

Second Week on Seroquel XR

What to do about me and D.I.D

Well I am now into my second week if Seroquel XR and my wife asked me how I was, I of course replied what do you mean how am I? I am irritable and grumpy and bored to death, I am sitting in my bed with my face buried in my laptop writing war stories for one site and griping and bitching on my own site. I guess I really need to answer her question don’t I? I have been taking it day by day and sometimes in even smaller increments of time like hour by hour, like how I was feeling earlier today, I am still irritable and feel like I have done something wrong, I don’t know where it is coming from and I can’t tell you why I feel this way I just do. It is better for me and everyone around me to be by myself…
